Welcome to Columbia Central High School
... Home of the
Golden Eagles

Welcome to the 2011-12 School Year! Columbia Central
High School is an accredited high school in full compliance with the
mandates of “No Child Left Behind” and “Education Yes”. For the 2010-11
school year, CCHS received a letter grade of “B” on our state report
card that measures academic success, and for the second consecutive year
we led the county in our overall scores on the Michigan Merit Exam. We
also exceeded the state average in all categories of the ACT Test.
Credit for our high scores is to be given to our advanced curriculum
offerings and exemplary staff. For the 2011-12 school year, we have
added advanced placement courses in chemistry and world history. In
addition to this, we offer engineering courses at three levels, and many
other advanced placement and accelerated classes.
The academic, social, and athletic accomplishments are a great source of
pride for our students, staff, and community. We are also proud of our
band, percussion unit, leadership class, and other “co” and
extracurricular activities and organizations. These instill a sense of
community service and pride in our environment. Our band and percussion
teams have recently been crowned “State Champion”, and have been invited
several times to compete at the “National Level”, and the CCHS
Leadership Class has been ‘exemplary” for community service projects.
About 75% of our students participate in athletics or other service
clubs and organizations such as Key Club, National Honor Society, and
SADD.
We take great pride in our students, staff, and our facility; the
majority of our staff holds a masters’ degree in their teaching area.
The strong academic programs offered place great demands upon our
students; we continue to meet and exceed the mandates of the state and
national standards. Twenty five credits are required for graduation;
most of our students exceed this. Honors’ classes are subject to a
weighted grading system; therefore, students are encouraged to take
accelerated classes, and many graduate with a grade point average beyond
4.0.
Community pride and support in our school is very important to us;
parents and community members are welcomed into our facility, and
encouraged to take part in the educational process; school improvement
teams meet on a regular basis and parent involvement is encouraged. Our
community fitness center is a very busy place.
New community members are encouraged to “drop in” for a visit or
personal tour of the facility with the high school principal.
